Spotlight on Sustainability: Jeri’s Review Article Selected for ASM SDG Collection
We’re thrilled to share that the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) has selected Jeri’s latest review article, “Microbe – plant interactions of Escherichia coli and Salmonella,” for inclusion in this year’s ASM Journals SDG Spotlight Article Collection. This curated collection highlights impactful research aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—a global framework for advancing equity, environmental stewardship, and food security.
As a signatory to the SDG Publishers Compact, ASM is committed to showcasing scientific work that contributes to a more sustainable future. Jeri’s article explores the complex relationships between foodborne pathogens and plant hosts, offering insights that are critical to understanding microbial behavior in agricultural systems and protecting public health.
The timing of this recognition couldn’t be more fitting: Jeri is currently leading a first-year interest group titled Nourishing the World: Strategies for Food Security, where students explore the science, policy, and ethics behind global food systems. This intersection of research and teaching exemplifies the kind of integrative, mission-driven scholarship that defines UW–Madison’s commitment to sustainability and student engagement.
