Vicky earns WI Initiative for Science Literacy Award
We are proud of Vicky’s contribution to help communicate science to non-science audiences. Checkout this chapter from her thesis, Characterizing insect feeding behaviors which influence epiphytic Salmonella enterica populations. Throughout Vicky’s graduate career she has been deliberate in her communication efforts (in person, in writing, and through social media) to reach the general public and raise the level of science literacy in society. She has honed her craft of communicating scholarly work, but more importantly it’s what she does and says to help non-scientists develop a healthy attitude about communication, and the importance of connecting science and society that we are celebrating.
In Vicky’s own words, “regardless of the number of high-impact publications or the novelty of their work, a scientist is only as good as their ability to translate the importance of their findings – especially so, to non-scientists.”
